Architecture in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (part 1/2)

Seeing the City of Rotterdam in Holland… From Up High

Last spring (2012), we were fortunate enough to spend some time in northern Europe, as some of the readers of this site will already be aware. As such, one typically gray spring afternoon in Rotterdam, we were able to participate on a walking tour of the city, as part of an international architecture festival going on in the city coincidentally around that time.

The final stop on the walking tour brought us to the very top floor of what was originally the Shell Oil building, on one corner of the Leidesplein, which can be seen from up high in one of the photographs here. The top floor is now an new bar type cafe, molded in the style of a once popular cafe that existed there pre-World War II. This is part one of a two-part photo essay, featuring a 360 degree-view from up high, looking around the downtown skyline and parts beyond, from Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
